Counselling Philosophy
We believe people are organic, holistic beings, each with the potential to lead a quality, satisfying and well rounded lifestyle. Every person is unique, valuable and has purpose. We have the capacity to attain our own degree of happiness within a balanced, healthy and productive lifestyle. In today’s mad race for the top spot of our professional and private lives, it’s easy to lose sight of the person we were, or the person we once hoped to be. Over time, these and other personal stressors or traumatic experiences chip away at our feelings of self worth, self esteem and identity. Mental health symptoms begin to show, such as a negative self attitude, depression, guilt or regret. With counselling and psychotherapy, there is hope for change.
Even when you are not sure why you feel the need to seek counselling, the process, techniques and interventions used by the therapist will help you separate emotion from the experience or behaviour. Working through problems will desensitize your psyche and reduce the strong negative feelings that burden you. By having an ongoing relationship with your counsellor, it is possible to move forward, break through barriers or mental obstacles, and take steps toward the quality of life you desire and deserve.
Counselling Mission Statement
At Wellness for the Body, we believe the overall health of a person includes mental and emotional well being, in combination with the physical side of life. Psychotherapy puts our mental and emotional states on the centre stage as the primary focus of discussion with a qualified counselling therapist. Your counsellor’s role is to provide empathetic support; help you discover alternate perspectives; offer assistance with closure, assertion and the development of stronger coping skills.
Counselling Services
Based on Adlerian principles, we offer a combination of Jungian and Client Centred counselling therapy. This means you determine the direction of your own counselling sessions. Interventions used in therapy include supportive expressive counselling (SE); art, writing and other creative therapies; logotherapy and reflective emotive behavioural therapy (REBT). All of these techniques maintain a solid balance between empathetic support, emotional healing, self discovery and mutually defined goals.
At Wellness for the Body, your comfort and trust in the relationship with your counsellor is a priority. We offer a complimentary initial visit to meet with your counsellor to mutually decide if you will progress into treatment. Intake will occur at this time if you decide to continue, although there is no obligation. We take precautions to ensure you are taken care of with the highest regard of confidentiality, integrity and privacy.
